Nerves, Yoga, and Family in Public Speaking

I am by nature very reserved, so you can imagine my condition when I have to speak in front of a roomful of people. Whenever I was to address a gathering I would have an attack of nerves.
To overcome my problem of public speaking I started doing some yoga relaxation. Yoga teaches you breathing patterns and how to get relaxed completely both in body and mind.
Secondly, I started practicing my speech in front of my family members. When I would actually be giving my speech I would try to think that it's my family in front of me and I am just having a nice disussion with them. This helped me overcome my fear of public speaking. I am very proud to say that later on I took up a job as a lecturer and could teach college students without any problem.
